The Barry County Trades Alliance isn't just about protecting today's homeowners; it is about building tomorrow's craftsmen. We believe that the skilled trades are one of the most honorable, lucrative, and essential career paths a young person can choose.
That is why the BCTA is currently laying the groundwork for a direct partnership with the Hastings High School trades department. Our goal is to bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world, muddy-boots experience.
While we are actively developing the official contours of this partnership, here is the blueprint for how BCTA members will support Hastings students:
Real-World Shadowing: Getting students out of the shop class and onto active, vetted BCTA job sites right here in Barry County to see how professional crews operate.
Hands-On Mentorship: Connecting students with master carpenters, electricians, and plumbers who can teach them the realities of the craft, from swinging the hammer to pulling the permits.
The Business of the Trade: Teaching the next generation that being a great contractor means knowing how to run a business. We will introduce them to the fundamentals of estimating, writing contracts, and understanding liability.
The Apprenticeship Pipeline: Creating a direct runway for graduating students to step immediately into paid apprenticeships and entry-level positions with the most reputable contractors in the county.
Note: This partnership framework is currently in the development stage as we work with local educators to ensure maximum benefit for the students. Stay tuned for official launch details.Â
